Zero Co…….turning off the plastic tap

Zero Co is calling on all Australians to help turn off the plastic tap by backing Australia’s newest start-up.

Zero Co was founded in 2019 by Australian Mike Smith and was established with a mission to eliminate single-use plastic packaging from every Aussie kitchen, laundry and bathroom by creating a range of planet-friendly, plastic-busting household products delivered to consumers via a circular delivery system.

A Kickstarter campaign was launched earlier this month to raise funding for the first production of a first range.

We’re not here to preach to Australia about the plastic problem – everyone knows it exists.  Instead, we’re committed to building a solution that changes the average household single-use consumption from around 200 bottles every year to zero.  We can’t build this on our own.  We need Australia’s help to turn off the plastic tap, for good.  We have an opportunity to show the world that Australia can be leaders in this space, so now is the time to show your support to make this a reality.

Each product comes in a beautifully designed dispenser made from plastic waste removed from the oceans.  When the dispensers are empty you order refills made of packaging that is recycled plastic diverted from landfill.  A circular delivery system basically means – you order, they deliver, you return the refill packs in a postage-paid pack, they wash them and refill again, ready for the next order.  Each dispenser comes with a tracking code too, so customers can see which part of the ocean they have helped clean up.

The cleaning products themselves have been developed in conjunction with some of Australia’s leading experts and are plant-based formulas that are designed to be the most effective on the market, whilst cutting out all the nasty things that are bad for the consumers and the planet.  Zero Co products are palm oil free, vegan and cruelty free, greywater safe, low allergen, petrochemical free, SLS/SLES/Paraben/EDTA free and made in Australia with eco perfumes.

Refill packaging

The average four-person household uses about 200 single-use plastic bottles every year in their kitchen, laundry and bathroom – that’s approx. 1 billion across all households nationwide.  And currently, only 12% of household plastic waste gets recycled!

Zero Co has already raised $600,000 during its pre-seed capital round and the start-up requires an additional $250,000 to fund the first production run.  The business has an experienced group of investors including Adelaide Crows chairman and former St George CEO Rob Chapman, tech entrepreneur and found of Kanbay, Raymond Spencer, chartered accountant and form KPMG Director Jennifer Ma, and form QBE CFO and board member, Alana Burton.
