eduCCate Global is a Climate Change Teacher Training Academy that is accredited by the United Nations.
The mission at eduCCate Global is to train at least one Lead Teacher for Climate Change Education for every school so that all children can transform knowledge into positive action.
Harwood Education teamed up with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to develop and deliver an innovative Climate Change Education Programme for primary and secondary schools in the UK. This ambitious multi-annual project will seek to develop a comprehensive package of interactive classroom materials on climate change for school teachers and children:
1) UN Climate Change Learn: Specialist E-Course for Teachers
2) UN Climate Change Learn: Interactive Teaching Programme for Children
Phase 1 of the eduCCate project was conceived by Melanie Harwood, Education Specialist, and Denise Meissner, Occupational Therapist and Autism Specialist, both of Harwood Education. A partnership was formed with the UN CC:Learn (UNITAR) Team to deliver their vision and mission to ensure that there is a Climate Change Teacher, accredited by the One UN Climate Change Learn Partnership in Every School throughout the world. This is was launched in 2018.
eduCCate Global smashed an original pilot target of 80 Climate Change Teachers with more than 2,000 Accredited Climate Change Teachers within just two months of launching the program.
In 2019 they launched eduCCate Global Community, a platform designed to enable collaboration in Climate Change Education, with lessons, networks and more. The platform was opened to their initial schools in September 2019 and all eduCCate Schools later in the month.
By 2020 they have ambitious plans to have placed a Climate Change SLE (System Leader for Education) in every UK school and are shifting their focus globally. They will also roll out many new and exciting initiatives to their eduCCate Global Schools.
The Climate Change Teacher Course has now gone viral all over the globe. To see how far this idea has spread go here.
So far two schools in Australia now have a Climate Change Accredited Teacher – John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School in Mirrabooka WA and Rochedale State School in Brisbane QLD.
